Another busy morning filled with emails and telephone calls - mostly related to Thanks for Life and of 'Focus on the Crocus'! I never realised just how much time I could use up 'doing' Rotary, however, a month in (nearly) and it's still good fun...

Apologies for my lack of communication. Life has been a little difficult over the past few days with the loss of a close relative. I have been carrying on with those 'must do' things, but unfortunately the DG Blog has taken a back seat.
Rotary and life all carry on no matter your own personal position, so the following entries will bring you all up to date with 'A Day in the Life of a Disrict Governor'...! Enjoy...

After an afternoon of emails, internet surfing and tea, Noel and I headed off from the Holiday Inn to the Foxhills Indoor Bowling Club. Here, we would meet with members of the Aylesbury 100's Club
President Tony wasn't able to make the meeting, but President Elect Jon proved to be an excellent 'stand-in'! This is my third visit to Aylesbury 100's, and as with the preceding two visits Noel and I found ourselves enjoying a fun time with their members. I was delighted to see Rtn Sue again - she is Aylesbury 100's first female member and has been working with 'the boys' for two years now! Good work Sue you've certainly settled in well are now giving full Rotary service...

Lunchtime - Aylesbury Rotary Club
Noel picked me up on time as usual and we set off for a day trip to Aylesbury. It's great being driven around by Noel, he's an excellent driver (ex-European Rally driver!) and great company. We took the country route and arrived ahead of time to the Holiday Inn just off the A41.

Friday morning I drove to Hitchin for a catch up with one of our GSE Team members Natalie Sullivan. We chatted about what her experience might be like in New Orleans, the opportunities she has to develop her vocational knowledge and the cultural exchange that will be part of this overall adventure. It was lovely to be with such an enthusiasic person and I know she along with her team mates will have a superb time in October. Don't forget to ask them to come and talk to your Club when they return home; contact Team Leader Pamela Burns on pamelaburns7@hotmail.com to book a presentation.
Most of my 'free' time is spent on the computer; answering emails, researching Rotary, developing the business or just generally mooching around the internet. This weekend has been no different with the exception that I have to admit to indulging in not one but TWO afternoon naps! That's the sort of thing my granddad did - what's happening to me!!! Do you know what though, I felt great afterwards - full of energy and ready to get back on those emails once again...

No Club visits today just life as usual... car in for service and a couple of clients to see!
However, no day would be complete without some Rotary work, so a quick run over to Tilsworth to meet up with IPDG Sandy and Hon Treasurer Terry; discussion and decisions taken then off for a quick catchup with DGE John and DGN Debbie...! As they say, it's good to talk and I'm glad we are able to have opportunities to share our worries and come up with solutions to problems.

Wednesday evening saw Stephen (Sypula) and I back at Tilsworth to provide a Thanks for Life update to some 40 plus Rotarians. We were supported by Russell Ball (Stevenage Grange) and David - thank you guys for helping make the evening so successful.
The purpose of the evening was to bring everyone up to speed on how our District is approaching Thanks for Life (T4L) and what national support/initiatives are available for us to work with.

Safely home again and time to catch up on the emails and telephone calls plus a need to think about WORK!! I say think about work because I'm sure as heck not doing much of it at the moment; that is deliberate though, I have decided to use annual leave to get me through these first few weeks - a good plan but I could be getting used to only 'doing' Rotary!
By the end of July I should be back in the swing of my day job so watch out, I could be running a training course near you...!

My penultimate breakfast club meeting today and Rtn Mike Wells arrived promptly at 6.15am to drive me to St. Albans Priory RC. We arrived some 25mins later at Verulam Golf Club so it was a case of sitting in Mike's car and waiting for the first couple of club members to arrive. It was a lovely morning and at 7am the car park started to fill with cars.
Being back at St. Albans Priory was great, many familiar faces and a bright bubbly atmosphere; tea was soon in my hand along with lots of opportunity to chat informally to many of the Club's members. It always surprises me how the external perception of 'Rotary' can be so wrong - today's membership is far from the traditional picture of years gone by and it is now becoming my personal challenge to show the world (well maybe just those in Herts, Beds and Bucks!!) that in joining a Rotary Club in D1260, individuals would be sharing their time with people just like themselves...
