Well, having recovered from our experiences at the DMZ (Demilitarised Zone) on Thursday, Friday and Saturday have brought us the joys of District 3640 Conference. The conference was held inside the district at the Intercontinental Hotel, Seoul.
Friday began by visiting Hansung for some last minute presentation 'practice'. You just don't know how difficult it is to translate for someone who doesn't present from a script - poor Hansung, he really did have to fine tune his English/Korean language skills!

Wednesday has turned out to be a great day - our itinerary showed a day of vocational experience and that was just what we have been given. I for one received a fantastic opportunity in spending time at KMA (the Korea Management Association). A full presentation of the groups specific offerings followed by a tour of the four sites and a good exchange of thoughts and ideas surrounding leadership development. You'd think that would be enough, but no I was led into a one to one meeting with the organisations President Ki-Ho Park where we exchanged backgrounds, philosophies and opportunites to work together - WOW!
Whilst I was enjoying myself at KMA, the team were taken for a tour of the National Assembly. Later in the afternoon, we all visited SBS (Seoul Broadcasting Service) and yes, you guessed it, the main news coverage was of the National Assembly! The tour of the broadcasting company was fascinating. We met news reporter Byungsik Shin, a long-time friend of Hansung who arranged for a full tour of the radio and tv broadcasting studios. Callum had an opportunity to meet and question a TV News Producer - a delightful man who is currently working on Golf Coverage primarily for KPGA matches.
Hi Everyone,
Well, the team and I have just returned from a cracking two day trip to a place called Gojo Island which is on the Southern coast of Korea, about a five hour coach ride from Seoul. Had a wonderful time there as the scenery was amazing and the weather was fantastic. One of the highlights was a trip to an uninhabited small island which a very rich Korean couple had made into their personal lovers paradise. They had beautifully tendered gardens, roman statues and were growing all sorts of wild flowers. Me, Elmi and Paula sat on the top of 'Mount Pleasant' feeling quite happy with life drinking Ginseng Tea with a perfect view of the beach and then the Sea of Japan...
We travelled there with a South Korean rotary club from Seoul and they were again unbelievably hospitable. They are forever plying us with food, drink and gifts. However, I am still slightly struggling with the food as we have eaten lots of raw fish, I have tried octupus and something called a 'sea squirt' for the first time but drew the line at eating something that was apparently worm 'lava'. We were ridiculously grateful this lunchtime when the club president took us to an American style restaurant which had chairs, tables, knives, forks and hamburgers!
