My dear brothers and sisters in Rotary,
There is an old saying in India: “When you help your neighbor’s boat across the water, you find that your own has reached the shore.” By helping others, we often find that we have helped ourselves as well.
Each of us came to Rotary to serve – and found the joys and satisfactions of friendship and fellowship. In August, the month we dedicate to membership and development, we focus on spreading the message of Rotary. By serving well, without hiding our Rotary light under the proverbial bushel, we find ourselves closer to our own goal: a stronger, more vibrant Rotary for generations to come.

To do their bit for Comic Relief, Rotarians Chalmers Cursley, Edward Hackford, Nigel & Maureen Milway were 4 of the 100 scrutineers at the Albert Hall when the audience at the Radio 3 concert for Comic Relief attempted to break the Guinness World Record for the largest Kazoo ensemble.
There were two attempts. Once during the Ride of the Valkyries and once during The Dambusters March. It was a close run thing, but after verification from Craig the man from Guinness, it was announced that we had broken the record by 49 Kazoos and raised lots of money for Comic Relief too.

Rotary Shoebox Scheme Requires a New District Volunteer
After 8 years Rtn Colin Kidby has had to stop his work for this Scheme in so far as he is no longer able to deliver the flatpacks and collect full boxes within our District. What would be of great assistance to the Scheme is if anyone can offer to fill the gap, perhaps not actually delivering and collecting but by being a central District point for the Scheme. This would require having sufficient space for two or three pallets holding a stock of flatpacks for Clubs to come and collect and receiving full boxes from Clubs, which would then await collection by the Rotary Shoebox Scheme as and when the collection vehicle was visiting our District.
