Long time no hear!
Written by Cheryl Law

gse_team_leaving_lhr_with_hats_640.jpgSorry there has been a long delay between the last blogs and this. The main culprit is the extortionately high internet fees in hotels. The only place to get free wi-fi appears to be Macdonalds! So having spent 3 days at the Conference followed by 2 days on R&R, we have not been able to blog.

At the moment I am able to use my new hosts computer to write this update, as there is an issue about finding the correct password. this should be resolved tomorrow hopefully, at which point I shall load up lots of photos. So what have we been up to.....Wollongong - The Conference! We arrived Friday afternoon, after a vocational trip to the production line of the Fairfax Press - a very impressive, but very noisy site. It fully explained the dreadful situation of lack of jobs within the media - they now have 200 people doing the job that once upon a time thousands did.

that is what it feels a bit like from here. Andrew, Emma, Dan, Nikki and Steve, as well as myself are trying to show District 1260 just what we are getting up to, but 'alas there seemeth' a small audience for our blogs! It would be great to see the numbers rise, and would be very encouraging for the team to know that you were following their adventure.

These young business people have come to Sydney with open hearts and more importantly open minds. They are eager to get every last bit of experience out of their vocational meetings, and just want to broaden their horizons - and District 9680 have not let them down. We have had an issue with loading pictures, but hopefully that has been resolved now.

Droga5
Written by Daniel Stewart

A couple of days ago Emma and I had a meeting with Julian Graham, Director of Planning at advertising agency Droga5 (so called because the founder of the original agency in New York is called David Droga and the fifth child in his family). It was a great opportunity to hear about some of their recent campaigns for brands such as Lynx and Bing, and how they approach different challenges.

I work in internal communications and it was interesting, not to mention encouraging, to hear that a lot of their work now begins with internal campaigns to build engagement within the organisation. That's a large part of what I do all day and there's definitely more cross-over than I expected.

ABC ... Loads of thought went into that title!

D1260 GSE Team Member - Andrew Kay - Sydney

Been an extremely fun and productive couple of days. Here is me (almost smiling) outside the Sydney headquarters of ABC - the Aussie's version of the BBC. We toured the radio and TV studios and spent time with the News Editor for all of New South Wales (an area the size of France and Germany combined).

Last night we gave our presentations to former Sydney GSE exchange teams from previous years. It was fascinating to hear their stories and that some of them still keep in touch.

The District GSE Team have touched down in Sydney.

One of the team Andrew Kay blogged:  "Safely here in Sydney and I can't believe it!   Would like to say a big thank you to everyone who met us at the airport this morning, especially Julian who drove me to the hotel - over the famous Sydney bridge as well.   Already got a bit of a sun tan, it has been gorgeous sunshine all day today."

Keep in touch with Team Leader Cheryl Law and the rest of the team by following the team blog found on the tab 'GSE Team Blog' at the top of the front page of the District Website.
