The Watford club held the local heat of the Rotary Young Chef Competition at West Herts College on Saturday November 26. There were nine contestants from five local schools.
Contestants were required to prepare a healthy two course meal for two costing no more than £14. They were marked on a range of criteria including presentation and a tasting test.
The competition was judged by Russell Bateman Head Chef at Colette’s Restaurant at The Grove Hotel, Phillip Candy Head of School Food Academy, and Andy Wakefield Co-ordinator Food Academy West Herts College.
The winner was Chloe Ware of Townsend Church of England School who prepared a beautifully presented dish of monkfish with butternut squash fondant and sauce vierge followed by an imaginative citrus meringue tart with cinnamon cream and mixed berries. The runner up was Abigail Hurst of Watford Girls Grammar School.

How many Santa’s can one Club produce? 19 members of the Interact Club of Heathcote Stevenage participated in the Keech Childrens’ Hospice Santa Charity Run in Fairland’s Valley Park Stevenage.
These young people raised to date, over £600, however monies are still being collected.
I believe that D1260 has every reason to feel extremely proud of this new Club.

The first Interact Club in Rotary International District 1260 celebrated its Charter on Friday 7 October 2011 at the Novotel Knebworth. Jordan Fisher was inducted as the founder President of the Interact Club of Heathcote Stevenage by President Bob Goodwin of the RC of Stevenage.
President Jordan then gave the members of the Interact club their badges and membership cards. Almost 100 hundred people, including friends and family, past and present staff from Heathcote School, and Rotarians from District 1260 and surrounding Districts, attended this celebration.
In his welcome address President Jordan said “ I feel that young people often receive bad press – however, the Interact club of Heathcote could prove that young people have a lot to offer the their community, and will foster an active interest in International understanding and good will”.

The MENCAP Games are held in April or May each year at The Thomas Parmiter Sports Centre, Garston, Watford. Over 100 competitors from local Gateway Clubs take part in indoor sports such as dominoes, table tennis and darts.
After tea, prepared by the wives of the Rotarians, the certificates, medals and shield are presented by the Chairman of the Borough of Watford.
Special thanks go to the Headmaster and Governors of Parmiter's School for continuing to let us have this splendid venue each year.
