Why Rotary Spring Clean (“RSC”): There is overwhelming evidence showing that a tidy environment creates a proud and stronger community. Rotary can play a very simple role in strengthening our communities and with minimal effort make Rotarians more aware of the environment.
When: Rotary Spring Clean is officially starting on 12 March 2012, the start of Climate Week and ends on Earth Day, on 22 April 2012. Clubs and Districts are encouraged to carry out their own initiatives at any appropriate time within 2012. Some Clubs are marking Rotary Week (23 Feb) with RSC projects.

Whilst hearing about the drought in Africa it reminded me of a car sticker I saw on vehicles in Rhodesia in the mid to late sixties “Water is Vital DAM IT”
Well one could say that nothing has changed since then, but that would be unfair to state. Countries have changed and priorities in some areas have not recognized that animal welfare and the public health has to come first and it is with this in mind that Council have agreed for the following to take place:
That if each Club in this District just had sandwiches and a cup of tea or coffee one week instead of the average £12.00 meal. The saving could be in the region of £7.00 per member and then if this was timed by 20 being the average membership in a Club and then by 49 being the number of Clubs in District 1260 this could be a saving of £6,800.00 and further if each District within RIBI and may be RI the world over just think how much could be sent to Africa at NO REAL COST to us Rotarians and think of the very good publicity ROTARY can gain from this very simple gesture.

The outcome of the forthcoming UN Climate Conference at Copenhagen will affect, for better or worse, all our futures. Notwithstanding the current media coverage, we Rotarians can also do our bit by raising environmental awareness within our own Clubs and communities.
If your Club is carrying out an environmental project, or if you know of a local school that is working to improve the environment, then why submit an entry for this year's RIBI Environment Awards? There are two categories: one for Districts or Clubs and one for local schools or youth groups. It's quick and easy to enter and there are cash prizes for the winners. |

Each

any of the local Rotary Clubs to these events would be interested in getting
involved in supporting any of them on the day.

Literacy In A Box: The birth of the box
Having established the principle of support for Zambian children through School Aid 4 Zambia we needed to address the key issues in schools ie. basic facilities, overcrowding and a lack of school supplies.
We, in the UK, take for granted school supplies, which include pens, pencils, paper, chalks and rulers among many others.
