RIBI President presents IMPACT with 100 ROI OptyseTM ophthalmoscopes.
After their address to RIBI Conference, President Peter Offer presents Claire Hicks and Zelma La zarus with units to support ROI's blindness prevention programme.
Speaking afterwards, Claire Hicks (left), CEO to the IMPACT Foundation, and daughter of the late Sir John Wilson CBE, DL, founder of IMPACT, as well as Sightsavers International, said “We are deeply grateful for this gift of the ophthalmoscopes, half of which are already on their way to India: The rest will be hand delivered to Bangladesh, The Philippines, Nepal and Cambodia.
Many people in developing countries lose their sight because the early warning signs of eye disease are left undiagnosed early warning signs of eye disease are left undiagnosed but with these award winning, portable ophthalmoscopes, even more eye care workers will be given the tools to examine their patients' eyes in the field. We are extremely grateful to the ROI for this generous and practical gift which will make an enormous contribution to saving sight”
Zelma Lazarus, Chairman of IMPACT India, told ROI that some of the units will be carried on their new Lifeline Express mobile clinic and training buses. Others will be used by trained personnel in the field. President of Stevenage Grange Rotary Club, Ray Turner commented “Apart from wanting to support this deserving 2006/7 RIBI Preferred project, my Club were impressed by the charity’s internal processes , training regimes and feedback arrangements. They have stringent monitoring and expenditure controls and regular evaluations, including personal visits, to ensure that funds and equipment are utilised effectively. Just 8p of each £ donated is spent on administrative support.”
