As you will see these are my words in the DISTRICT newsletter:YOUR District Newsletter - Giving others information about your club
Our Number One Priority
When I sat down
in November 2007 to think about being District Governor I first consulted the
Rotary strategic plan and the first priority is to Eradicate Polio. For the
health of the world, and credibility of Rotary we must finish the job we
started, if we are to then proceed to other equally challenging health related
projects. I appreciate how most clubs have taken on this challenge in
imaginative ways including clubs working together to raise funds but with a
theme of enjoying themselves at the same time. Thank You.
Visit target almost reached? Clubs doing what they do best
The second
priority was born out of believing in Rotarians and their ability to choose
their own club goals with projects in the local, national or international
community where, from previous experience, they have identified those needs
within the RI President’s Emphasis on Water and Sanitation, Literacy and Health
and Hunger, in MAKING DREAMS REAL.
In my wildest
dreams, with just four clubs to visit, I could not have been more surprised at
the response from clubs even during the difficult financial situation. The
achievements of individual members and members working together enjoying what
they do makes me very proud that I know and have met so many truly remarkable
people.
What is the public perception of your club?
My only question
is “why don’t more people join us in this remarkable work?” I know all clubs
are aware of the need for new members. However, we do need to show ourselves in
a different light. We are all young at heart and I believe mix easily with
younger people and have a lot to offer as long as they see WE are willing to
accept change to some of the outdated ideas.
What image
does your club displays to prospective members?
Life and Rotary Moves on
We are now not
only half way through this year and already Sandy has started planning for 2009 / 10 with
her district team now in place. I wish them well and every success especially
Sandy and David for their trip to the RI assembly in San Diego.
The President
Elects and committee members who in the midst of planning their year still
ensuring that support is given to the current Presidents and the successful
completion of this years club projects and events.
Just when you thought the hard work was done?
I
recall that when I was President and thought the work was done, times became
busier trying to fit everything in before the year end. We still have a lot to look forward to Making
More Dreams Real.

YOUR District Conference in Eastbourne
– 27th – 29th March
2009
The
BIGGEST event in our District Calendar and close to my heart. It is only your
support that will make this a memorable conference. Considerable work has been
put in by PDG Mike Gardner and the conference committee to make it informative
and enjoyable, so let us all see how 1260 WORKS. (And of course how we enjoy
Rotary)
RIBI
Conference Edinburgh
– 10th – 13th April 2009
A shorter
conference this year but that won’t affect the standard of the programme or the
welcome from the Scots. This also includes the business meeting so make sure
your voting delegates attend with the official registration papers. District
Governor Nominee Amanda Watkin is coordinating district attendance. If you
require help please contact her.
RI Convention
Birmingham – 21st
– 24th June 2009
If you haven’t
registered by the time you read this you will have to pay the higher
registration fee. PDG Charles Chaney is our District Convention Co-ordinator if
you need more information.
My final message this
year is to thank all members of the district for the support, friendship, and
enjoyment that you have all shown to Jeannette and I. Not for just this year
but for as long as we have known you.
I think of
those members who are no longer with us and their families who together with
the readers of these thoughts I send Jeannette and my best wishes for Christmas
and a peaceful and prosperous New Year.
When I consider the background to RI President
DK Lee’s theme MAKE DREAMS REAL - I think of all the Children throughout the world
including our Newest Grandchildren.
Happy Christmas see you in the New Year!
