Conference 2009 Success! Print E-mail
Written by Guru Guruswamy

eastbourne_3.jpgThanks to all of you who came to the Conference and made it so successful. Even the weather was in our favour.

As our AG Debbie Hodge in her 'Pause for Thought' reminded us... we can all learn a lesson from the Geese...how they fly in a V-formation so that the slip stream helps in reduced effort for others. TEAM stands for Together Each Achieves More.

IPDG Brian Doggrell and PDG Mike Gardner and his team made sure it was a pleasurable and wonderful experience with a variety of programme and opportunities for fun and fellowship.

The programme was a mixture of talks from the Service Committee Chairman showing how Rotary works in our District, worthy projects such as Canine Partners and One Water, and inspirational speakers. All were very well received. The final event, Shed @ The Park, performed by the children of Chesham - home town of DG Les Lee, was an emotional roller coaster and a fitting end to the Conference.

On Friday evening many members attended a Casino evening in the Gold Room of the Winter Gardens with background music provided by Gentle Jazz. We generously allowed one of the GSE Teams from Indiana to win! On Saturday evening the magicians kept us mystified and Deja Vu kept us dancing throughout with music from the 40s to the present time.

It was a most successful Conference enjoyed by all.

It is not easy to summarise what happened there ... but here are some snapshots of the Conference through the eyes of the Registrar [Guru Guruswamy], some of them taken behind the scenes, and supplemented by those taken by the Professional Photographer.

For more pictures or better still to experience it, why don't you book in your diary the dates for the next Conference, 21-23 May 2010. You are all invited to Bath with Sandy.

A Thought...

glennestessl.jpg"One of the most wonderful things about Rotary is that it allows you to be part of something so much larger than yourself."

Glenn E. Estess Snr., RI President 2005.

Nothing Changes...

paul-harris.jpg"I would like to think that the pioneering days of Rotary have only just begun. There are just as many new things to be done as ever there were. Kaleidoscopic changes are taking place, many of them without our will. Even to hang on to the fringe of this fast-changing world is about all most of us can do. Rotary simply must continue to pioneer or be left in the rear of progress."

Paul Harris - The Rotarian February 1945
