Written by John Goodge

benny_manser_rotary_thailand2web.jpgBenny is our District 1260 Sponsored Ambassadorial Scholar for the academic year 2009/10 (i.e. His scholarship is paid for by our District Foundation contributions).  During last summer he spoke to several of our clubs to tell them of his plans to take a masters degree in International Development in Thailand.

His latest report contained this picture, taken when he was helping out in a rice field in northern Thailand before moving down to Bangkok to begin studying at the Chulalongkorn University, and also at this time he volunteered to teach English at a hill tribe primary school. All this means that he now has a working knowledge of the Thai language, which enables him to engage effectively with his host Rotary Club, and to speak and answer questions at other clubs.

Also some of the local clubs are looking for Matching Grant partners to provide English language and computer training for a Thai charity…. I am sure that he would be pleased if any 1260 clubs show an interest!!

A Thought...

glennestessl.jpg"One of the most wonderful things about Rotary is that it allows you to be part of something so much larger than yourself."

Glenn E. Estess Snr., RI President 2005.

Nothing Changes...

paul-harris.jpg"I would like to think that the pioneering days of Rotary have only just begun. There are just as many new things to be done as ever there were. Kaleidoscopic changes are taking place, many of them without our will. Even to hang on to the fringe of this fast-changing world is about all most of us can do. Rotary simply must continue to pioneer or be left in the rear of progress."

Paul Harris - The Rotarian February 1945
