Welcome to Rotary Year 2010-11, a year for Building Communities and Bridging Continents…   It’s been a hectic start (as planned!), with some 20 Club visits, general District meetings including our first Council meeting of the year and two RIBI Executive gatherings! Sounds quite busy but what a lot I’ve learned from Rotarians near and far.

Of most benefit have been the discussions with you the members; some great ideas, valid concerns and excellent plans for ‘making a difference’…  I am really getting the feeling that together we can address our membership challenges and create stronger partnerships with outside organisations such as the corporate and public sectors that reside in Herts, Beds and Bucks.

You’ll see that I am creating a log of daily DG comings and goings, so if you’d like to read about the Clubs in our District or get to know about some of the thoughts that have come forward, check out the DG’s Blog on www.rotary1260.org; feel free to add additional comments but remember it’s in the public domain so don’t be too rude!

This year, our monthly newsletter will contain updates from the Service and Administration Teams, articles submitted by you, events from the District Calendar (so don’t forget to add your Club activities) and of course a warm welcome to new members in District 1260.

Additionally, it would be lovely to have a ‘personal story’ section, this would be your story – a bit like a Club introduction talk but in written form (pictures would be great). So, if you or someone you know has a story that others would like to hear, be bold and let your fingers do the talking by writing to the editor…Chalmers Cursley: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

Finally, Team Scarborough continue to work hard to bring District 1260 a conference to remember. Registration forms are available online as are the marketing materials to raise your Club’s interest and curiosity – if you’d like to book a member of the team to come along and tell you more, contact Morag on This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

Have a great summer, looking forward to hearing from you…!

A Thought...

glennestessl.jpg"One of the most wonderful things about Rotary is that it allows you to be part of something so much larger than yourself."

Glenn E. Estess Snr., RI President 2005.

Nothing Changes...

paul-harris.jpg"I would like to think that the pioneering days of Rotary have only just begun. There are just as many new things to be done as ever there were. Kaleidoscopic changes are taking place, many of them without our will. Even to hang on to the fringe of this fast-changing world is about all most of us can do. Rotary simply must continue to pioneer or be left in the rear of progress."

Paul Harris - The Rotarian February 1945
