Harpenden’s High Street Methodist Church came alive to the sound of 150 children’s voices when Harpenden Village Rotary Club presented the 65th annual Schools Carol Concert.
As usual with this highly popular concert, it was standing room only for the many parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters who made up the audience.
The Harpenden and District Junior Schools’ Choir, drawn from 13 local schools, were joined by members of the Harpenden Light Operatic Society. Together, the two choirs led the audience in singing many traditional carols as well as contributing some lesser-known but equally festive Christmas music.
The organist was club member Derek Curran.
Before leaving for home the young choristers were treated to a soft drink and sweets while the Operatic Society’s choristers enjoyed mince pies and coffee.
A collection was taken for Bikes4Africa; club President Phil Murray's chosen charity, which raised £726. Sponsorship and advertising in the concert programme produced, after expenses, another £1000 which will go to other charities and causes supported by the club.
