Update on Marondera Project Print E-mail

mk_imaron_9_tank_at_extension.jpgOn Monday December 12th  Past President Andy Griggs of Marondera Rotary Club, Zimbabwe gave a presentation on the progress of our project for the provision of a water supply to the Mushewe Vanhu  orphanage. With the addition of a matching grant to the funds from  Milton Keynes and our twin club in Holland, Helmond Regio  $12,000 was eventually sent to Zimbabwe via Zambia to finance this project.

This caused some delays, but the Mitchell Mining company commenced the work for the borehole with funds from another charity and we provided the money for the  pumps, pipework, storage tanks and other equipment necessary to provide a water supply for both drinking and sanitation as well as an irrigation system. They are now able to grow their own vegetables which is a valuable asset for them.

Andy showed some interesting photographs of the various installations, and of the staff and pupils at the orphanage. This certainly brought the project alive and made the whole effort  seem  more worthwhile.

Peter Snook , International Chairman, Milton Keynes Rotary Club.
